Summary

Ted's family visits him in London, and it represents the beginning of the end of his marriage. Jaime continues to be a diva, leading to his benching, and an eventual first win for the American coach at AFC Richmond. While Ted's marriage is crumbling, Keeley and Roy's relationship starts to spark. Ted's halftime speech about Change is one of the best moments of the series. And the AFC Richmond victory signals Rebecca's sabotage plan may be crumbling before her eyes.

Favorite Moments

  1. The series includes lots of "Easter Eggs" about cultural references of life in the US during the 1980s and 1990s, in addition to romantic comedies and musicals. One such reference is "Oklahoma" - Ted and his wife Michelle's code word to tell the truth, a nod to the Broadway hit.

  2. Ted in the locker room talking about Change. He manages to weave the team's need for change together with his bittersweet realization that he needs to let his wife go.

  3. But before Coach Lasso has a change to give the speech, note that his efforts to turn Roy Kent in his favor finally paid off. As the players noisily gathered, Roy, for the first time steps in and demands the team listen to their coach. "OY! Sit down & Listen!" This is the first moment Roy was aligned with his Coach and asserted himself as Captain to "The Lasso Way."

  4. Roy makes the extra pass to win the game without Jaime.

Favorite Quotes

  1. "Sam was more open than a jar of peanut butter on my kitchen counter," Ted Lasso talking about the need to make the extra pass.

  2. “Coach Beard’s views on romantic relationships are not too dissimilar from his views on cooking steak. You know, you spend any more than five minutes on one — it loses its flavor.” -Ted Lasso

  3. "If it's the right person, even the hard times are easy," Higgins on his relationship with his wife.

  4. "You remind me of my grandma with the channel hopper (tv remote), you push all the wrong buttons," Ted to Jaime.

  5. "It took balls to do what you did," Roy says to Ted after he benched Jaime. "It's all we got Roy, it's all we've got," Ted replies.

Lasso Lessons

  1. Make the Extra Pass - Ted's mantra to his team, specifically Jaime. This is a nice reminder for life and work, no matter how good you are, if you find your teammate who might be more open or more capable, it's always better than to be selfish and keep the ball.

  2. Avoid Hero Culture - it's easy to get sucked into relying on your best sales person or best consultant to either win or save a deal or project. But heroes come and go, it's best to build capability and confidence across the entire team. You set your self up for more sustainable success.
